Dennard scaling
Tag: dennard-scaling
Aliases: classical scaling
Robert Dennard's 1974 observation that if every linear MOSFET dimension and the supply voltage are shrunk by the same factor α, the per-chip power stays roughly constant while density and frequency rise. Held until the early 2000s when leakage broke the voltage-scaling assumption.
